Senior Manager, Software Engineering

Harness is the AI Software Delivery Platform company, led by technologist and entrepreneur Jyoti Bansal (founder of AppDynamics, acquired by Cisco for $3.7B). Harness has raised approximately $570M in funding and is valued at $5.5B, backed by leading investors including Goldman Sachs, Menlo Ventures, IVP, Unusual Ventures, Citi Ventures, and more. As AI accelerates code creation, the real bottleneck has shifted to everything after the code – testing, deployments, application security, reliability, compliance, and cost optimization. Harness brings AI and automation to this “outer loop,” helping teams ship software faster while maintaining security and governance throughout the entire software delivery lifecycle. Powered by Harness AI and the Software Delivery Knowledge Graph, the Harness Platform applies deep context and intelligent automation across the software delivery lifecycle with governance and policy-driven controls embedded throughout the platform. Over the past year, Harness powered over 185M deployments, 82M builds, 18T flag evaluations, 8M security scans, 9.1B optimized tests, 3T protected API calls, and helped manage $2.8B in cloud spend — enabling customers like United Airlines, Morningstar, and Choice Hotels to accelerate releases by up to 75%, reduce cloud costs by up to 60%, and achieve 10x DevOps efficiency. With a global team across 26 offices and 27 countries, Harness is shaping the future of AI software delivery — and we’re looking for exceptional talent to help us move even faster. Position Summary Build Distributed Systems at Global Scale — Join Harness FME Last year, the Harness FME platform evaluated 4 trillion feature flags. For most people, that’s just an impressive number. For a scale-minded builder and engineering leader, it represents one of the most demanding challenges in distributed systems. To power this scale, we’ve built: • Massive global concurrency supporting millions of real-time decisions. • Millisecond-level latency through a globally distributed feature flag delivery network. • Tier-one enterprise reliability trusted by the world’s most sophisticated companies. Our Feature Management & Experimentation (FME) team is expanding in Bengaluru. We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead this high-impact team. This is a rare opportunity to join early, mentor top talent, and directly shape both the architecture and the high-performance culture of a team whose work sits squarely in the critical path of software delivery for global enterprises. About the Role As a senior Engineering Manager for FME, you will combine technical leadership, strategic execution, and people management to guide a team of highly skilled engineers. You will be responsible for: • People Leadership & Mentorship: Hire, grow, and nurture a world-class team of engineers in Bengaluru. Provide continuous career framework guidance, technical training, and constructive performance evaluations. • Execution & Delivery: Drive agile, iterative development cycles with a short customer feedback loop. Ensure the team delivers consistently on module-level and cross-company priorities (including integration into Harness 3.0 and the Unified Data Platform). • Technical Governance: Own engineering excellence, operational rigor, and product quality. Partner with Architects and Staff Engineers to oversee technical functional specifications, secure cloud integrations, and robust distributed systems design. • Operational Health: Champion structural practices to minimize production incidents and regressions (targeting 2 S2+ regressions per quarter). Actively track engineering metrics, optimize cloud infrastructure costs (COGS), and enforce efficient code review processes. • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Management, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE/DevOps), and other module teams to unblock dependencies and ensure enterprise-readiness. About You • Experience: 10-14 years of overall software development experience, with at least 2–3 years in a formal engineering management or solid tech-lead capacity managing high-performing backend teams. • Technical Depth: Deep technical expertise in building highly scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems. Strong familiarity with Java or Golang environments is required. • Systems & Data Infrastructure: Proven experience working with containerized ecosystems (Docker/Kubernetes), cloud ecosystems (GCP/AWS/Azure), and advanced database/search technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, Relational DB tuning, Elasticsearch). • Experience scaling data pipelines processing 10 TB+ daily. Strong expertise in distributed processing frameworks like Spark and Flink • Scale Mindset: Experience handling systems with high concurrency, low-latency networks, real-time data processing, or edge delivery networks is a massive plus. • Operational Rigor: Deep understanding of modern CI/CD processes, deployment metrics, automated quality gates, and distributed tracing architectures. • Soft Skills: Exceptional problem-solving, debugging, and cross-functional communication skills. A proven track record of helping teams navigate ambiguity, manage shifting requirements, and execute under tight release cycles. What you will have at Harness • Experience building a transformative product • End-to-end ownership of your projects • Competitive salary • Comprehensive healthcare benefit • Flexible work schedule • Paid Time Off and Parental Leave • Monthly, quarterly, and annual social and team-building events • Monthly internet reimbursement Harness in the news: • Accelerating Our Mission to Bring AI to Everything After Code • Goldman Sachs leads investment in software delivery startup Harness at $5.5 billion valuation • How Harness runs 16 “startups within a startup” at scale | Jyoti Bansal • Harness Research Shows AI Visibility Crisis Fueling Security Nightmare • Harness has been named to the Inc.
