Software Engineer, Developer Experience

ABOUT AIRWALLEX Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own. We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,700 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. Read our operating principles https://www.airwallex.com/en-us/operating-principles to see it in full. HOW YOU'LL MAKE IMPACT You’ll improve how external developers discover, understand, integrate with, and build on Airwallex’s APIs and platform. You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering, Customer Success, and Technical Support to streamline the developer experience, from API design and documentation to tooling, analytics, and customer feedback loops. - Own API standards and conventions that make Airwallex’s developer experience clearer and more consistent. - Build the user and data analytics pipelines needed to understand how developers use our products and where they need help. - Develop a developer portal and documentation experience with AI as a core feature. - Contribute to open-source projects and foster a developer community around Airwallex’s platform. - Adopt technologies that raise the bar for our engineering practices and ship external tools and services to customers. You'll work from our Singapore office five days a week. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Essentials - A bachelor’s degree or above in computer science, engineering, or a related field. - 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, including strong backend development experience in Java, Kotlin, Go, or Python. - Solid computer science fundamentals, including object-oriented design. - Experience designing, building, and operating high-volume distributed systems. - Strong cloud engineering experience with GCP or AWS, including services such as EC2, RDS, ELB, or CloudFront, along with Docker and Kubernetes. - Experience releasing and maintaining well-known APIs or designing APIs. Preferred - Experience in AI agent applications. - Experience in MCP servers. - Experience in maintaining open-source projects. - Experience leading major software migrations involving breaking changes. - Experience in developer experience or other customer-facing engineering roles. YOU'LL THRIVE HERE IF - You're comfortable owning the roadmap yourself. - You're excited by a category that hasn't been won yet, and want to be early enough to shape it. - You’re comfortable operating across time zones with a globally distributed team, including colleagues based in APAC and North America. - You simplify complexity rather than hiding behind it. LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUR TEAM The Developer Experience team is a group of talented engineers and product partners building the tools and platforms that connect external developers of our customers to Airwallex.
